Protocol to Singapore’s DTA with Qatar to come into force on 1 January 2012

4 December 2011

The protocol to the avoidance of double taxation (DTAs) agreement between Singapore with Qatar will come into force on 1 January 2012.

Signed on 22 September 2009, the protocol will allow the tax authorities of both countries to exchange information that is foreseeably relevant to the correct application of a tax convention as well as for purposes of the administration and enforcement of domestic tax laws of the contracting states.  A state cannot refuse a request for information solely because it has no domestic tax interest in the information or solely because it is held by a bank or other financial institution.

The original bilateral agreement was concluded on 28 November 2006.
